Alas, the rooster failed to crow,
So this morn I’m a little behind time!
Despite forgoing my daybreak ritual,
Moreover, the rain is unforgiving,
Starts to gush out soon after nine,
A drenched suit declared my tardiness,
And guess whom I bumped into first?
My patron, right by the front door,
Hideous, with a missing front tooth.
The self-proclaimed office crier,
In undignified haste, to announce,
My late arrival at the coffee point.
Made a scapegoat, now into the mire!
These two-timers are never around,
Many a day, when I get here early,
And those eves that I stay behind,
Sweating, wearing my fingers rough,
For nobody, burning the midnight oil,
Only just for the love of the game!
